Look out classic car enthusiasts! This 1965 Plymouth Performance A Group Barracuda is a rare find that comes dressed to impress! This two-door pony car features beautiful white paint that is complimented by a clean, tan colored interior.
This show car is sure to turn heads, however it has been fully restored with highway performance in mind. This Barracuda has 86,000 original miles including 13,000 miles since the restoration.
Generally Barracudas of this model year came with either a slant 6 engine, 180 hp 273 cubic inch V8, or the Formula S with the high performance 235 hp 273 V8, heavy duty suspension, larger 14 inch wheels, and a tachometer.
Like the Formula S, the Performance A Group had the high performance engine and heavy duty suspension, but lacked the larger wheels and tachometer. The V8 Commando badge shown in pictures is unique to this car.
This Plymouth Barracuda appears to be original, however looks can be deceiving. The engine was replaced with a custom balanced 324 cubic inch Mopar mill. The 273's closed chamber heads, manifold, rocker arms and carburetor were retained.
Pistons and cam was supplied by Hughes Engine and it has a compression of 9.6 to 1, with a forged crank from a 1967 Fury. Also installed were new ball joints, tie rods, KYB shocks and polygraphite bushings. The original .86 inch diameter front anti-sway bar was replaced with one that is one inch diameter, and .75 inch diameter was installed in the rear.
It also has a 2 ¾ inch single exhaust with an Accelerator muffler. A custom rectangular stainless steel resonator was built patterned after the original. The stock 13 inch by 4.5 inch wheels were replaced with 14 inch by 8 inch Modern wheels, mated to radial 205-60 H rated tires. Additionally, the manual 24 to 1 ratio steering gear was modified to a 16 to 1 ratio.
