The Model: Following Alfa Romeo's withdrawal from the American
market in 1994, Alfa premiered this "new generation" Alfa 916
Spider for non-US markets only. The new car featured
projector-style headlights and clean lines from a completely
concealed folded top. The interior refinements of the new Alfa
stood apart from the competition offering special optional leather
sports seats, leather color-coded door panels and stitching around
the handbrake, gear lever and the new three-spoke steering wheel to
tie it all together. A new higher output 2.0 16 valve Twin Spark
engine with two spark plugs per cylinder was available as a
high-performance option. The new Alfa 916 proved to be an
outstanding car in every respect, garnering many awards including
Autocar Magazine's, "1995 Car of the Year" and "Best Sports Car" as
well as Car Magazine's "Best Designed Car".
The Car: Despite Alfa Romeo's disappearance from the US market in
1994, this particular Alfa was specially constructed to meet US
federal specifications for a client. It was imported into the
United States in 2004. It is believed to be the only 916 Spider
legally imported to this country. The car is equipped with the
optional higher output 16 valve twin spark engine and rare two-tone
sport leather interior. Since its importation, this car has made
its rare presence felt. In 2013, this car was concours judged at
101.6 points and won "Best in Show" at the national Alfa Romeo club
meet in Sonoma California with over 200 participants. The "Best in
Show" national concours trophy accompanies the car. This car has
traveled less than 500 miles since its national concours victory
and shows just over 29,000 total miles. The original books and
tools accompany this car. This immaculate national concours-winning
Alfa drives like new and will offer the new owner a truly unique
ownership experience both as a fantastic rare sports car and a
prime candidate for additional concours awards! Don't wait for the
next opportunity, this may be one of the ONLY US legal Alfa 916.
