The Model: In 1972 Robert Jankel realized a dream of starting his
own automobile company. The Panther Car Company set out to build
low volume handcrafted exclusive replicas of 1930s vintage classic
cars. His company evolved and changed hands to become Panther West
Winds Ltd. The mission evolved as well. Panther has produced a wide
range of automobiles over the years ranging from contemporary
sedans to open two-seaters that recaptured the essence of the
legendary pre-war sports cars. The Kallista (derived from the Greek
word meaning "small and beautiful") was hand built in England
starting in 1983 and imported into the United States beginning in
1985 with a sticker price of $23,500 which was comparable to the
price of the Porsche 944 and Chevrolet Corvette at that time. The
Kallista was popular, but the pricing and hand-built nature of the
car limited production to just 1,695 examples of which only 148
ever made it to the United States. The bespoke nature of the car
enabled discriminating buyers a wide range of options in both
appearance and performance as each car could be custom built to
suit the customer's needs and desires. Construction was entirely
modern using a combination of metal and glass fiber to produce
strong and attractive lightweight coachwork. The rare Kallista
offered vintage wind in your hair motoring coupled with modern
construction and a reliable and easy to service drivetrain for the
best of both worlds.
The Car: This beautiful Kallista reflects the pampered life it has
led. The paintwork and interior are beautiful. This matching
numbers car is exquisite. It has always been well maintained and
now shows just over 21,000 original miles. The car today wears its
fantastic factory black paint. Accents of burgundy in the folding
convertible top and rear-mounted spare tire cover contrast
fantastically with the black paintwork. A full array of analog
gauges are mounted in the dash and set within the elegant wood
plinth. The company's logo of a Puma set in the center of the
steering wheel is the only clue to passerby about this vehicle's
origins. Amenities include chrome wire wheels, duo-tone chrome
horns, driving lights and in-dash stereo. This Kallista comes ready
to be enjoyed with a complete fresh service. With only 148 that
ever made it to our shores, the Kallista offers exclusivity that is
rare in any price range. Don't miss the chance to own this rare
beauty that is truly a rare collectible investment.
