For sale in our Dallas/Fort Worth showroom is a rare Factory Five
Replica of a 1965 Shelby Daytona Coupe. After winning Le Mans in
1959, Carol Shelby wanted to return to Le Mans and beat Enzo
Ferrari with a car of his own design. However, the Shelby Cobra had
too much drag to achieve the top speeds on the Mulsanne Straight
needed to beat Ferrari in the GT Class. Enter the Daytona Coupe.
With its aerodynamic hatchback shape and new top speed, it not only
won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but also went on to make Shelby the
first American constructor to win the FIA World Sportscar
Championship in 1965. This Factory Five replica beautifully pays
homage to that legacy. The flowing silhouette of this racer is
draped in a beautiful maroon with black racing stripes, sitting
atop 17" Halibrand replica wheels and Nitto 555 tires. The 4" tube
frame is powder coated, and sports an independent front suspension
and live rear axle. Bringing everything to a halt are a set of
Wilwood brakes, 13" rotors with 6 piston calipers up front, 12"
rotors with 4 piston calipers out back all with adjustable bias.
Motivating this 2,500lb fiberglass rocket is a balanced and
blueprinted 351 Windsor with Edelbrock low-rise manifold, aluminum
heads and 4 barrel carburetor, a Holley electric fuel pump, March
polished underdrive pulley set, Canton Road Race pan, and a fully
ductedFCO radiator. Transferring the power to the ground is a
Tremec TKO 5 speed overdrive and a Moser 8.8" with 3.55:1 gears.
Strap into the cockpit using the Simpson 5 point harness, and you
will be greeted by a 14" Moto-Lita leather wheel, Autometer
instrument gauges, Kirkey Racing seats, a Steeda short throw
shifter, a fully functional rollcage, and vintage air. This Daytona
is ready to steal any show you park it at or the track day you
drive it to. To view this vehicle in greater detail including HD
