In 1949 nothing looked or felt like a Hudson Super Six. With its
high beltline and low roof, the Hudson Super Six looked like it had
been "chopped" and modified by one of the new custom shops that
just started popping up in California, yet was a brand new car.
Thoroughly aerodynamic and a good 5" lower roof line than most cars
of the era yet still maintained the same interior room. Hudson
called it their new Step Down Styling or "Monobilt" construction as
the floor is actually sunk between the frame rails. This not only
maximized headroom, made the interior cavernous but certainly made
it one of the safest cars in a collision particularly in a side
impact or rollover. They weren't cheap to build and were right in
line with Buick and Chrysler in the near luxury segment. The wide
track and low center of gravity also assisted in excellent
handling. Nothing exotic was used for the suspension either,
conventional double wishbones in front and parallel leaf springs in
back but with its long wheelbase and lots of sprung weight
cornering was direct and responsive providing a very enthused ride.
This one has the flathead inline six which has become known to be
exceedingly durable, smooth and quite, as you'll witness cruising
down the parkway. 3 Speed manual with column shifter shifts as it
should. Power steering and air conditioning for added riding
comfort. Black with wide white wall tires set off by red rims and
chrome disk covers, this 1949 Hudson Super Six sits like it just
landed by air or sea. The chrome bumpers aft and stern are brand
new. The Hudson Super Six unique low slung appearance and silky
handling would soon prove to be the predecessor to the Hudson
Hornet which would eventually eclipse Cadillac in sales. This
particular 1949 Hudson Super Six with just 50 miles since rebuild
is just what you'd want in a fun collectible vehicle, enjoyable to
drive, unique modern chopped styling with ample room for friends
and family. Don't let this one pass you, when have you seen one of
these last? To view this 1949 Hudson Super Six in greater detail,
