Back when this Chevrolet Malibu was new in 1978, gas only cost 63
cents a gallon and automotive manufacturers were trying to meet new
strict emission standards and if they could only see this car now
it would be interesting to hear what they would have to say. This
Malibu features a 725 horsepower 540 CID big block V8 that has the
potential for an additional 250 horsepower if you hook up some
nitrous bottles to the dual stage nitrous plate system, and with a
10.2:1 compression ratio, you can still use normal pump gas. This
engine has many great performance parts on it including, a forged
crank with ATI balancer, Dart intake, 1,000 CFM H.P. Holly
Carburetor, Holly electric fuel pump, Dart Pro-1 heads, Hydraulic
roller valve train, Comp Cams 618 lift/ 268 duration, Harland
Sharpe rocker arms, and a MSD ignition system with a 2-step box.
Hooked up to the back of this big block is a Turbo 400 with a
manual valve body, reverse shift pattern, B&M 3500 stall
converter, and a Hurst stick with reverse lockout. The power is
then transferred to the 9" Ford nodular rear end that has 4.33
gears with a Detroit locker, aluminum pinion support, and Moser 33
spline axles. Given this power plant, the car is both great on the
street and is capable of putting down some impressive drag times.
When you get into the interior of this Malibu you notice a mostly
stock look beside the roll cage running throughout. This car even
has an AM/FM radio with a CD player built into the car for when you
are cruising it on the streets. This vehicle is located in our
Milwaukee showroom. You can view this 1978 Chevrolet Malibu in
