Porsche took a step in a radically different direction for the
company with the introduction of the 928. It offered a more
luxurious grand touring option to their sports car lineup, and
suitable alternative should emissions and rear-engine regulations
tighten even further. The model was sold side-by-side with 911
until 1995, offering a unique alternative for the driver looking
for an arguably more sophisticated and refined Porsche.
9289201429 was completed on March 5, 1979 finished the stunning
livery of Black over Cork Partial Leather upholstery with optional
equipment including limited slip differential and electric exterior
mirrors, along with the rarely seen 5-speed manual transmission.
This 928, from the second year of production, remains remarkably
original and preserved, with only 29,800 miles on the odometer. All
paint and anodized trim is completely original, in excellent
condition with complimenting "phone dial" alloy wheels. Its cabin
is equally as impressive and pampered, with only mild fading
evident in areas. The engine bay and undercarriage is in factory
form and still exhibits all of its original stickers, underhood pad
and cadmium plating. An extensive mechanical restoration was
performed in 2007 (or only 300 miles ago) by a marque specialist,
with accompanying invoices.
Importantly, the 928 is complete with original toolkit, jack,
spare, plastic spare bag and gloves, keys, records, owner's manuals
and Porsche Certificate of Authenticity. As the foremost influencer
of all modern front-engine and water-cooled Porsche models, this
early 928 presents a rare opportunity for the discerning collector
or enthusiast to acquire a collector grade example, on a level of
originality and cleanliness beyond others in today's marketplace.
