For Sale: 1964 Pontiac GTO in Fredericksburg, Virginia

Vehicle Description

A Rare Find—a fully-restored GTO Tri-power Convertible!!

Our 1964 GTO convertible, the first year of the GTO option, represents a rare opportunity to buy a fully-restored example of the car that started the muscle car era.

This ’64 is a standout:

  • Full restoration
  • Original paint color
  • Interior replaced as original
  • Date correct 389 V-8 with 3 x 2bbls in fully-detailed engine bay
  • Automatic transmission
  • Like new convertible top

They don’t get any Nicer—or more Rare!

  • Paint and Chrome

The Silvermist Gray paint is a beautiful respray in the original color and is in excellent condition with only two small chips (see pictures). The paint gleams and shows off the car’s great lines.

The chrome is in very good condition, giving a like-new appearance to this GTO.

The body and underside of the car are virtually free of rust (this GTO was undercoated with what appears to be Ziebart-style protection. The engine compartment is fully detailed.

  • Interior

The seat upholstery was all redone in period- and car-correct Black vinyl as confirmed by the car’s data plate. The door panels and carpeting are in excellent condition as well.

The black convertible top is excellent with a slight clouding of the rear window, and the power unit raises and lowers the top automatically, which then stows under the black boot cover.

  • Engine

The date-correct 389 V-8 engine, equipped with the optional 3 2bbl carburetors (Tri Power) configuration, runs and drives like a new one. It sits in a fully detailed engine bay.

  • Transmission

The original automatic transmission has been upgraded with a Turbo 400 unit but should the new owner wish to revert to the older style, the original cross-member support will go with the car.

  • Tires, Brakes, Safety Systems

The 4 BF Goodrich P225/70R Redline tires speak to the effort to keep the car looking “as original.”

The power brakes work properly and smoothly in bringing the car to a rapid and safe stop.

All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges/lights (temperature, fuel, amp and oil pressure) appear to work properly. Similarly, the lights, horn, and turn signals all work as does the speedometer. The mileage on the working odometer is 87,956.

An Original GTO that looks like a Show Car and Drives like a Muscle Car!!

One would have to look far and wide to find a nicer ’64 Tri Power GTO convertible than this one. Whether at a national or regional car show, dinner at a special restaurant or a night out for ice cream, you can be assured that this car will be noticed and admired by everyone who sees it.

These original cars represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up.”
