Like the Superbird and Daytona's of the late sixties and early seventies, the Pontiac Grand Prix 2+2 was built for the sole purpose of winning NASCAR races. To gain an aero edge the Grand Prix received modifications such as the radically sloped nose sporting trademark blacked-out honeycomb grilles, front spoiler which guided additional cooling air into the engine compartment and a revised back window which was developed in the wind tunnel on a race car before it was applied to the street version. What street-car driver wouldn't want to boast that the special stuff on his car was actually race-derived technology? The aero numbers backed up the results: Grand Prix's coefficient of drag dropped from a blocky 0.453 to a slick 0.368. This special edition Pontiac also received the FE2 Ride and Handling Package to help improve cornering.
