The Model: Chevrolet swung for the fences when they developed the
ZR-1. It would be their attempt to dominate the sports car market,
and it did take leaps and bounds in modernizing their flagship
sports car. The C4 ushered in modern suspension, tuned port fuel
injection and a more subdued shape with celebrated aerodynamics
that offered a fresh American Sports Car from the dated lines of
the C3. Partnering with the Lotus Group, the Corvette folks
developed what would be the heart of the ZR-1, the all-new LT-5.
The wildly modern engine design was powerful and reasonably
efficient with 16 injectors, which at full blast delivered 405 HP
to the 275/40ZR17s on the 11-inch wheels. In order to house those
extra meaty tires, the designers gave the ZR-1 its most
distinguishing feature by widening the car. Suspension upgrades
were also made, making the ZR-1 handle as well as it accelerated.
It should be noted that its MSRP price tag was nearly double from
the base model and customers were known to have paid in excess of
$20,000 above MSRP to get their hands on a ZR-1.
The Car: Pampered and treated as a collectors piece since new this
very rare factory competition yellow ZR-1 is one of only 448 built
in 1994 and one of only a hand full in the competition yellow
factory color. Documented with copy of window sticker and build
sheet. With all of its electronic components working properly and
cockpit style interior this is one modern classic that makes each
drive a memorable one. With very few owners since new this ZR-1
benefits from a clean history with no previous accidents or no
signs of damages. Sporting it's factory paint job and original
interior this now a 23 year old classic looks and performs as good
as new. A favorite option of these high tech track ready road cars
is the ability to remove the targa top and enjoy the open road as
fast as the driver may desire.
