1965 Porsche 356 SC coupe #221701. Matching Numbers
1965 was the final year of production for the classic Porsche 356
making this car a very collectible Porsche. The SC model included
an upgraded 95HP pushrod motor. Car retains its original color
combination of signal red with black vinyl interior according to
the Porsche Kardex. Mileage on the odometer shows 4423 (actual
mileage is unknown).
A 3 owner car, with the 2nd owner owning the car for 46 years
after the original owner enjoyed her for the first 5 years. A bare
metal restoration and drive train rebuild was done in the mid
nineties and has aged nicely. The car shows very well today and is
mechanically sound. The original date matching wheels were just
recently re -chromed and new tires were mounted, as well as a
rebuilding of the disc brakes. The car drives very well and is a
blast to drive.
1965 SC Production Estimate:
According to the production data in Brett Johnson?s book for
the 1965 calendar year, Porsche built 485 type 616/16 engines. Of
course not all of those engines went into 356C cars built in that
year, but one can still make reasonable estimate that of the 1,101
coupes and 588 cabriolets built in that year maybe 30% had SC
engines installed in them. Extrapolate those figures and there
would be approximately 330 SC coupes built. A very small number
indeed.
