For Sale: 1966 Chevrolet Impala in Carson, California

Vehicle Description

Produced from 1965 to 1970, the redesigned fourth generation Chevrolet Impala was so popular when it was introduced that Chevrolet sold more than one million Impalas that year, setting an industry sales record that has never been bettered. The following year saw a few minor changes to the grille and the triple rounded taillights of 1965 were changed to triple rectangular taillights for 1966 and once again the Impala was a huge hit, with more than three quarters of a million sold that year. Built the first week of June, 1966 at GM’s Van Nuys Assembly plant in Los Angeles, California, this 1966 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe is a two door hardtop model and has been owned by the same family for almost twenty years with the current owner having possession of the car for the past eleven. Under the hood lives a factory optional, numbers matching L35 Turbo-Jet 396ci big block V8 mated to a factory optional Muncie M20 wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Other factory options include power steering and deluxe seatbelts with front retractors and a rear seat speaker as indicated by the cowl tag, both of which are still present. Mildly restored at one point in its life, this Impala has been repainted in its original Regal Red which shows very well for its age with minimal flaws, while the upholstery has been redone in the original red, although the seats now feature vinyl in lieu of the original cloth interior for better durability. Aside from the reupholstered seats the interior remains mostly original and the headliner, carpet, door panels, kick panels, rear quarter interior panels, and dash trim all appear original. The stock dash instrumentation features a fuel gauge and speedometer, with a factory optional tachometer in place of the original clock, and an accessory dash top clock installed on the dashboard, both of which are extremely rare accessories. Other interior features include a JVC tape deck in place of the original radio and a set of accessory gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, and voltage along with a Viper aftermarket alarm and an electric fan. This big block Impala rides on a set of Grand Am Radial G/T 235/70R115 tires mounted on a set of Chevrolet Rallye wheels which are stopped by manual drum brakes all around and were recently rebuilt by the current owner. Overall this 1966 Impala is a great example of one of the best selling models Chevrolet has ever produced and although they were built in record numbers, as a numbers-matching non-Super Sport big block 4-speed car, it is definitely a rare specimen and not only does it look great, it goes just as well thanks to its 325 horsepower and 410 ft. lbs. of torque on tap.
