Throughout the last half of the 20th Century and during the turbulent 1960s in particular Cadillac remained the undisputed leader of the American luxury-car market. For 1965 Cadillac positioned itself for continued success with its completely restyled model line-up and most notably the retrograde tailfins were finally cast aside once and for all in favor of smart blade-type rear fenders while bodylines assumed a much crisper overall theme.
Greater interior space was now possible with a new perimeter-frame chassis allowing forward placement of the engine by six inches and replacing the outdated X-member arrangement of the 1950s. In describing the new 65 design Cadillac General Manager Harold Warner stated Our objective was a car that says Cadillac even if all divisional insignia is removed. Indeed the overall result was both an unqualified success and a design statement of pure understated elegance ...laid out with an architects precision according to a contemporary Motor Trend evaluation.
For 1966 changes were few but they continued Cadillacs time-honored process of careful evolution and refinement of its excellent basic designs. This particular 1966 Cadillac DeVille 2-door Hardtop is a virtual time capsule with prior long-term ownership. The current owner acquired it from the estate of the prior owner who was 103 years old and maintained it as is ever since. Finished in Strathmore White over Light Blue Deluxe upholstery the low-mileage Cadillac is highly equipped with power-assisted brakes steering antenna windows and locks plus climate-control factory air conditioning and cruise control.
