For Sale at Auction: 1934 DeSoto Airflow in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

This very rare Airflow SE Coupe had a production of 1,584 vehicles. The car had many safety and aerodynamic features that made it distinctive. Designed in a wind tunnel, with the Wright Brothers assistance, the Airflow evolved. The all-steel body, built like a bridge, is six times stronger than a typical body. It has an all-steel frame with no wood. The 6-cylinder engine produced 100 bhp with a top speed of 100 mph. The Airflow set 25 speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the summer of '34. It averaged 76 mph over 500 miles and an averaged 74 mph over 2,000 miles. A gas saver transmission reduced engine RPM by one-third through 50% of the car's speed range. The Coupe was often referred to as a 3-passenger coupe, however, it has two comfortable auxiliary seats that are much more desirable than a rumble seat. Gas-saver 3-speed manual transmission with air-cooled clutch and generator, 4-wheel hydraulic brakes, complete auto-electric choke, floating power engine mounts, aluminum alloy pistons, oil filter, ride stabilizer and hydraulic shock absorbers complete this vehicle. The car has an older restoration to original specs. Drives very well. All components work fine.
