For Sale: 1973 BMW 2002 in Bellevue, Washington

Vehicle Description

This 1973 BMW 2002 Tii is a fully restored classic Bavarian coupe that's finished in correct Fjord Blue Metallic with Dark Blue Interior. This classic Bimmer is powered by a Fuel-Injected 2.0L/130hp 4-Cylinder Engine. 4-Speed Manual Trans. 1973 was the final year with round taillights and small bumpers. It retains its Kugelfischer mechanical injection. The clutch and four-speed manual transmission feel good and operate with no second gear crunch. Gauges, controls and trim are complete, the steering wheel has been upgraded with a nice Momo Prototipo. Door panels and seating surfaces are excellent condition. A partial list of upgrades included a new water pump, clutch slave cylinder, shifter bushings, shocks, muffler, tailpipe, engine gaskets, seals, belts, hoses, engine mounts, and a professional repaint in correct Fjord Blue Metallic. Bilstein shocks. Hella twin front fog lights. The genuine Tii presented here is one of a mere 4,521 that were built in total for the 1972 and 1973 model years. These are sought after not only for their performance and rarity, but also due to the iconic round taillights and slim chrome bumpers that would both disappear with the introduction of a totally new body style for 1974. This rare and highly desired 2002Tii will make a fine addition to any garage, and is ready to be enjoyed for years to come. The BMW 2002 was produced from 1968 to 1976 and introduced the high-performance Tii version of the popular 2002 in 1972, featuring Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, higher compression ratio, and freer flowing exhaust system for the 2.0L engine, resulting in dramatically improved performance with output rated by the factory at 130hp/130lb-ft. Additionally, the 1,010kg Tii received boxed rear semi-trailing arms, larger diameter front disc brakes and larger calipers, uprated front hubs and spindles, higher capacity brake booster and 23mm master cylinder, a sporty clock on the dashboard, and exclusive 2002 Tii emblem at the rear.BMW's little 2002 is a wonderful design. The 4-cylinder engine is fully adequate for the relatively light car. '02s are very quick on smaller roads and keep good pace with today's modern cars on the highway. The 2002 was quite a sports car back in the sixties and seventies, far ahead of the competition in terms of engineering, driveability, and safety. The car handles quite well on the road, with the ultra-modern (for the time) rear link semi-trailing suspension keeping the car stable, the front features modern strut suspension. The car carries speed well, and its suspension soaks up bumps and dips with impressive aplomb. The 2002 was noted for its exemplary ride quality when new, and it's still smooth and relatively supple by today's standard. The upright packaging that made the 2002 feel so right nearly four decades ago is still relevant today. You sit well supported, facing only the instruments needed for the job of driving. The speedo, tach, and fuel/temp readouts are unobstructed by the largish wheel, and the thin, dare we say dainty, A, B, and C-pillars make for near 360-degree visibility with no blind spots. The BMW 2002 models are cult cars that uniquely embody the spirit of the 1960s and 1970s, one of the icons that taught America about handling, the original German sport sedan is still relevant and fun to drive today. Every automaker has that handful of models so special, so impactful, that they write entire chapters of the company's history on their very own. For BMW the 2002 is high on that list. Along with the rest of the Neue Klasse sedans and coupes from the 1960s and early '70s, the 2002 is legendary for the key role it played in establishing the marque's performance mettle and putting it firmly on the map as a world-class sporting car company. For more information on this 1973 BMW 2002 Tii, or any of our 100+ Classic, Exotic and Collectible Sportscars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or feel free to drop by our Bellevue, WA showroom - Home of the West Coast's most exciting inventory of luxury, exotic, sports and collectible cars with 200+ always on site.
