Vehicle Description
This Rolls-Royce Boattail Speedster originally started life as a 4-door sedan. During the bombing of London in 1939, GR063 was given to the war effort and converted to an ambulance hearse and saw heroic service throughout the entire war. In the mid-1980s it found its way to Los Angeles as a shot-up derelict, and was stripped of its offending coachwork, restored and displayed as originally delivered by the factory. After 25 years, it was decided that it was time to give GR063 a new life as a very special speedster. In January 2011, a completely new and original body was designed incorporating many new elements, including moving the engine, transmission and firewall back 18", giving improved balance and handling as well as a more pleasing look. The emergency brake was moved to the outside of the body, and new factory rods and inserts were installed. Unibody construction was utilized for strength and a total weight savings of over 2,500 lbs. The single hood hinge was replaced with twin hinges to match the shape of the iconic Rolls-Royce radiator. The final result was a much more refined and balanced look. Since completion, the speedster has been shown in competition 15 times, winning top awards in all outings, including Pasadena Art School of Design People's Choice, Caruso Concours d'Elegance People's Choice and Grand National Roadster Show. 4.25-liter 6-cylinder engine with manual transmission.
