Please contact us for more information. The world-famous "Hummer" was conceived in response to the U.S. Army's requirement for a single-platform High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) to replace its aging and varied 1/4- to 1 1/4-ton vehicle fleet for both combat and support roles. Diesel power and an automatic transmission were basic requirements, plus a capability for the new vehicles to carry a wide variety of weapon systems. The test and evaluation program was extremely rigorous and when the smoke cleared, the AM General company was awarded a contract for 2,334 HMMWVs in March 1983. Deliveries commenced during early 1985 and some 72,000 were built by mid-1991. The HMMWV, best known as the "Humvee" or "Hummer," gained iconic status from its extensive use during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in the Middle East. Nearly 300,000 have been built to date. Over 40 countries have adopted the "Humvee" as well, and it is now every bit as famous as the GPW or "Jeep" of WW II and Korean War fame. Recognizing a winner, General Motors purchased the "Hummer" name and distribution rights to the vehicles and began selling the barely civilianized Hummer H1 in several body styles through select GM dealerships. Unmistakable with its rugged bodywork, unique suspension geometry, and brute power, the Hummer H1 became highly popular and begat the smaller and tamer H2 and H3 road models often seen today. Nonetheless, the original "go anywhere" H1 remains immensely popular today for its incomparable purity of design and purpose. With only 16,570 miles of use at the time of cataloguing, this highly desirable and collectible 1990 American General M998 Humvee is currently registered and titled for on-road use. It is nicely restored and equipped with a multitude of highly desirable and useful accessories including a new insulated Arctic soft top. Hard-core off-road items include an Ibistek swing-arm spare tire lifter, Air Lift rear bumper with shackles, rear bumper pintle extension, five new Goodyear Durawall MTR tires on 24-bolt battle wheels, and new Red Dot military air conditioning. Finding the right path is made much easier with LED headlights, upgraded LED marker lights all around, LED interior lights, and an LED back-up light. The Humvee's interior is very well equipped for your next adventure with new high-back seating, new three-point seat belts, a new interior insulation kit, Blue Force Tracker display, Rockwell International GPS system with antennae, PRC 77 military radio, and military #2060 power supply amplifier. The electrical system is also built for action with a new military 400-Amp/dual-voltage 28/16-Volt alternator upgrade with installation kit, 12-Volt interior power outlet, new batteries, and a military-spec Solargizer battery charger system. Additional accessory gear includes two Sceptor 5-gallon water cans with aluminum mounting brackets and retainer straps, two 50-caliber ammo cans with aluminum mounting brackets and integrated straps, a rear-mounted underbody Pioneer tool kit, military First Aid kit, US military American Lock vehicle padlock set, front brush guard and Ibistek tow bar. Fully equipped and ready to go anywhere, anytime, this intimidating early AM General Humvee looks, drives, and even smells like a brand-new vehicle.
