The Toyota Soarer was a personal luxury GT Coupe sold by Toyota in Japan from 1981 to 2005. At its introduction in 1981, it won the Car of the Year Japan Award. The Z20 series Toyota Soarer was produced from January 1986 to April 1991, and was available in several variants. The Soarer shared its platform with the newly introduced A70 series Supra. The Z20 Soarer introduced a vehicle information display system with Electro Multi Vision and visual information cassettes. In 1988, TOM'S released a limited model package named the C5. The 7M-GTE in the TOM'S C5 Soarer saw the power upgrades similar to those seen in the Turbo-A Supra of the same year. In April 1989, a limited 500-unit production of the Aerocabin Version was also available. This came with only 2 seats and an electric folding roof. The Aerocabin came with the same specs as the GT-1 Limited and were only available with the 7M-GTE engine, 4 Speed Automatic Transmission, tan leather interior, and pearl paint. All models built from May 1989 including the Aerocabin did have a revised crossmember.
Nobuhide Tachi is a former Japanese racing driver, and the co-founder of TOM'S, a Japanese racing team and tuner for Toyota and Lexus. The company was co-founded with an ex-Toyota dealer, Kiyoshi Oiwa. TOM'S is an abbreviation of "Tachi Oiwa, and MotorSports." This example currently has 133,100 actual kilometers as indicated on its Arizona title, which translates to approximately 82,522 actual miles. It is finished in its correct colors and in addition to all of its TOM'S upgrades, has a nice Alpine AM/FM/CD head unit and period correct BBS Wheels. Also has authentic, very rare "ETC" (Electronic Toll Control) mounted under dash, with vocal greeting in Japanese every time the car is started. Cool accessory!
This is the only known 1989 Toyota Soarer Aerocabin "TOM'S Limited Model Package" in the United States, and was legally imported from Japan via the "25-year" import rule. The previous title from Japan indicates that it was a one-owner car. Fun to drive, and fun to just sit and watch the power retractable roof go up and down like a precision machine. An amazing piece of history and a fantastic opportunity!
