PACKARD, 1931 Model 840 - Deluxe Eight "Sport Roadster"
This is the premiere sport model true classic roadster for Packard, in their final year of offering factory built (Dietrich design) side curtain open cars with fold down windshield. The "Deluxe Eight 840" was equipped with the biggest engine Packard offered coupled with the SWB (short wheelbase) Super 8 chassis (140").
The car offered here is a beautifully preserved older restored (former CCCA national 1st prize winner) example. It was the only known example of its type that was sold new by the Washington DC Packard agency. It is loaded with factory accessories. Total mileage is believed original from new is 63,904. When restored, the former owner wanted to use the car for CCCA Caravans so he had the rear end gears changed to 3:70 ratio. This affords the car to be driven at sustained speeds over 60 mph without undue wear (too high rpm) to the engine. This car runs and drives superbly. It handles well. It stops well and it is very fast in context with cars of this period.
