For Sale: 1953 Chevrolet 150 Club Coupe in Jefferson, Wisconsin
This is the last year Chevrolet built the 150 Club Coupe. The rear side glass is fixed and will not open. The 150 Club Coupe was a very inexpensive and plain model. It has minimal chrome and stainless and no trim around the rear window.
This particular car has been a favorite of mine for at least 12 years. It belonged to my deceased friend Gary Nisleit. He and I both raced with the Midwest Gassers, mostly at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI. Gary campaigned this car at many other tracks and it was always a favorite.
It isn’t spectacularly fast. It will run high 12’s in the quarter. But it is very period correct for the end of the Gasser era. It is a fantastic old car that has not been rusted. I think it has a great look.
The period correct, wheels and tires speak to the late 60’s. The push bars and straight axle were very popular with the Gasser guys. It has its original glass windows and the door glass rolls down. The doors, ignition, glovebox and trunk still lock via key!
This old coupe was built in St. Louis and believed to have spent most of its life in Southern IL. Gary got it decades ago and built it into a Gasser. It certainly hasn’t seen weather other than sunshine in many years.
It now has a built 400 Small Block Chevy engine with Hooker headers and electronic ignition. The transmission is a race built Powerglide with a high stall convertor. The one piece driveshaft connects it to a Ford 9 Inch differential with 4.11 gears and a spool. There is an exhaust system with mufflers that can be removed if you don’t wish to drive it on the street.
It has DOT legal tires, working lights and turn signals. The horn, wipers and speedometer are not functioning. There is no spare tire or jack.
The seats are buckets with seat belts. They are upholstered to match the door panels. The headliner is color coordinated, as is the carpet.
As far as the high performance equipment, there is a line-lock, three spoke steering wheel, gauge package and tachometer with shift light. The shifter is a Quick Silver model with reverse lock-out.
The body is very nice with only a few small flaws. The paint is older, but still looks great. The chrome is also in good condition, but not perfect.
There is nothing to do, but put gas in the tank and have a blast!
