For Sale: 1970 Buick GSX in Kentwood, Michigan

Vehicle Description

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this rare, 1970 Buick GSX Stage 1 for consideration. The Buick Gran Sport, or GS, started its life in 1965 mainly as an answer GM Division rival, Pontiac's GTO. Due to GM's restriction of 400 cubic inches for motors installed in their intermediate cars, Buick took its proven 401 cubic inch "Nail Head" engine, fitted it to the Skylark and created the Buick Skylark Gran Sport. There is no doubt the Buick was GM's division for Luxurious cars and they did not disappoint with the GS line as they added performance to the mix. The GS line carried the highest trim and options than any of its inter-divisional muscle car partners. After some years of success, 1970 saw the greatest Buick GS of all time. GM finally lifted its corporate ban of engines larger than 400 cubic inches in intermediate bodied cars. Buick responded by stuffing a brand new 455 cubic inch engine nto its restyled GS. The 455 boosted more displacement, bigger valves, and a hotter cam than the 400 and was also mated to a standard cold air induction through functional hood scoops. The 455 was conservatively rated at 360 horsepower, but even more impressive was the 510 pound feet of torque the car had to offer. To top it off, Buick also introduced the GSX appearance package with front and rear spoilers, contrasting stripes, meaty tires, hood tach and a heavy duty suspension. Many consider the GSX as the ultimate muscle car of its time.
The 1970 Buick GSX offered here is a three-owner example, the second owner owned the car from 1972 – 1997, the third owner from 1997 until present. with the most recent owner owning the car for nearly 20 years. The car remains quite original receiving a high quality repaint in 1996 in its original Saturn Yellow, the engine was also rebuilt at that time. Today, at 83, 504 miles, the car remains in great condition. The car is powered by its 455 V8 engine, (correct replacement short block) turbo 400 BB code transmission, and rear wheel drive. The interior appears to remains quite original including dash, steering wheel, door panels, seats, etc. the carpets appear to be new. The frame and undercarriage appears to remain untouched and original. The miles, 83504, are said to be original and the overall condition and retained originality of the car backs that statement up. Highlights include: power steering, power brakes, complete GSX package, bucket seats, console with shifter, am radio, functional cold air induction, original spoilers, stage 1 wheels, hood tach, etc. Mechanically, the car runs and drives out excellent; excellent acceleration, tight suspension and handling, and good braking.
The Buick GSX is one of the most revered muscle cars on the planet. Their low production coupled with their overall performance make keep them on the must have list for many enthusiasts. An example such as this checks off many boxes and is a must consideration. Documentation includes the original title with original owner information.
