Unimog is a range of multi-purpose all-wheel drive medium trucks produced by Mercedes-Benz, a division of Diamler AG. The name Unimog is a German acronym for "Universal-Motor-Device (Gerat). The first model was designed shortly after World War II to be used in agriculter as a self-propelled machine providing a power-take off to operate saws in the forest or harvesting machines on fields. It was designed with permanent all-wheel drive, with equal-size wheels, in order to be driven on roads at higher speeds than standard tractors. With their very high ground clearance and a flexible frame that is essentially a part of the suspension, Unimogs are ready to conquer any terrain. Due to their off road capabilities, Unimogs can be found in jungles, mountains, and deserts as military vehicles, fire fighters and expedition campers. In Western Europe, they are commonly used as snowplows, municipal implements, forest ranger vehicles, construction equipment and are ready to tackle any job.

Power is transferred through the optional synchromesh transmission featuring 20 forward gears and 8 reverse gears, and applied to the 4 wheels with Portal-type axles to provide ground terrain travel and to maintain a low center of gravity.
