1988 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

FROM THE MISSOULA AUTO MUSEUM COLLECTION Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder January 19th - 22nd, 2017 at Russo and Steele's 17th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction at the Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Please contact us for more information. The Silver Spirit and its longer-wheelbase sibling, the Silver Spur, debuted for 1980. Their lower, more rounded and less upright styling, overseen by Austrian stylist Fritz Feller, appealed to a younger clientele than ever before. Nonetheless, the new models still delivered all the exclusivity, luxury, and sophistication traditionally expected of Rolls-Royce. Glass area was increased significantly, providing much-improved visibility. Importantly, the new vehicles allowed compliance with tightening emissions, fuel consumption and safety legislation in the key Rolls-Royce markets, particularly the United States. While the Silver Spirit and Silver Spur were based upon the floor pan of the prior Silver Shadow, they offered a much-improved ride. Their highly refined and powerful 6.75-liter alloy V-8 engine, dating to the fall of 1959, initially utilized dual SU carburetors, with Bosch fuel injection on those export cars bound for the United States and Japan. In 1986, fuel injection became standard for all Rolls-Royce markets. Handling and ride benefited from a self-leveling suspension, using a hydraulic ride-height control system provided by Girling and gas-charged shock absorbers. Luxurious appointments included exceedingly comfortable leather seats, deep-pile carpets, and rich wooden veneers. An unqualified success for Rolls-Royce, the Silver Spirit and Silver Spur were produced through steadily improved iterations through 1989, with 8,129 Silver Spirits, 6,238 Silver Spurs, and 193 Silver Spur limousines. Offered without reserve from the Missoula Auto Museum Collection, this 1988 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur is a later-production example and as such, it incorporates many of the updates and improvements applied to the model during its production run. Among its many features are Bosch fuel injection, air conditioning, a wood-veneer dash and interior trim, sheepskin floor mats, and much more A very desirable example of the last generation of Crewe-designed-and-built Rolls-Royce automobiles, it represents excellent value today.
