Featuring smoothly streamlined bodywork, this 1936 Pierce-Arrow Model 1601 sedan
was mostly complete when purchased from western Colorado but the original engine and rear bumper were missing. As most classic-car collectors are well aware, locating a correct-type Pierce-Arrow engine would be a fairly difficult undertaking and the proper rear bumper is next to impossible to find today. Rising to the challenge, the owner elected to rebuild it from the ground up in the best Restomod tradition, maintaining the streamlined Pierce's stately looks and totally updating its suspension, drivetrain, and interior.
The owner selected Mt. Pleasant, Iowa's Paine Street Rod Fabrication to perform the transformation, with the regal Pierce dismantled down to the last nut and bolt and rebuilt from the ground up. Since the body's wooden framing was rotten, a steel substructure was fabricated to replace it. Once the framing and body work were complete, the car was refinished in top-quality, two-stage DuPont Chromabase paint comprising Cairns Blue (# 740729) topped with clear (# 72500). Pin striping was applied by Brad Grimm of Nature's World Studio and chrome work was performed by Quincy, Illinois' Precision Plating.
