For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette. This is the last hurrah for the big block Corvette. After 1974, Chevrolet would never install another big block into the Corvette. This one is certainly a well optioned Corvette. Equipment includes the numbers matching 454, 3 speed automatic transmission, convertible top and the auxiliary hard top, Power windows, rear defroster, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, leather seats/Deluxe interior, Air Conditioning, Power brakes, Power steering and of course Red over tan. Yes please. If one were to spec out a new Corvette in 1974, I imagine that most all of us would be very close to how this Corvette is optioned. The following year would be the last of the C3 convertibles and only available with small block engines. Most would say that this is one of the last highly sought after Corvettes. The 454 was rated at 270 net horsepower. Again this is Net horsepower. Until 1971, all Corvettes were rated at gross horsepower with no engine accessories. Net horsepower was with all engine accessories including water pumps, alternators and smog pumps. These were not as far away as some earlier Corvettes as one would think. There is still gobs of torque and that unmistakable big block sound.
