For Sale: 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A in Halton Hills, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1970 Dodge Challenger T/A For Sale - 9,527 Original Miles, Remarkably Original, Fully Doc'd LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A. The Challenger T/A was produced between February and May in 1970 and had a limited production run that makes them very rare and special today. The reason for the limited production run was that Dodge was only building the T/A for the public to satisfy the SCCA’s requirements to be able to field a car in the Trans Am Series. Sam Posey drove the only Challenger T/A in the Trans Am series in 1970 and managed to place fourth in the championship points standings. The 1970 only street models were fitted with several unique parts that separated them from the other models. One such example are the unusual exhausts. The dual exhaust ran normally to the stock muffler location, but then reversed direction and exited via the chrome tips in front of the rear tires. This 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A had a scheduled production date of April 14 th , 1970 at the Hamtramck, Michigan Plant where every T/A was produced. It was then purchased new at Future Motors Inc. May, 5th 1970. The dealer had two Challenger T/A's on their lot, a green one and a red one. The original purchaser was related to the dealer and was encouraged to come by and look at them and he would give him a great “deal” on a purchase. The red T/A was his choice and he took it home. It would only be driven sparingly for the first two years, then was quickly put into storage. After a few years the intention was to sell the car, but the owner got busy in life and selling the Challenger was left undone. Later in life, the thought of selling came back, and by that time T/A Challengers had increased in value. After much thought the original owner decided to just continue holding onto the car. It wasn't until 2007 that the thought of selling became a reality. The final decision to sell was made as the car was just too special with only 9,000 miles and being in such remarkable original and well preserved condition. It was taken to a few final shows in Florida before being purchased by a large Mopar collector who only collects the most rare examples with full and complete documentation. It would remain in his collection until it was purchased by LMC with only 9,527 original miles. Driven by the numbers matching 340 Six Pack T/A engine and numbers matching 727 TorqueFlite Automatic Transmission. The Challenger’s FE5 Red exterior shows extremely well. The roof is painted body color and the black T/A decals with the black Sport Hood complements and contrasts the Red very well. The outstanding original interior has Black Vinyl Bucket Seats that are in excellent condition. Power steering and power brakes makes this Challenger a joy to drive. Other notable options on the T/A are the J82 Ducktail Spoiler, and the N94 Carburetor Fresh Air Package with fiberglass hood. Also, the rear tires from factory are larger than the fronts to increase handling and acceleration, just like them rolled off the assembly line.  There are two framed display boards and a full binder with this T/A that have many original documents such as; the original warranty booklet, an original Challenger T/A brochure, the original owner’s manual, a Govier Report with a fully decoded trim tag, original retail instalment contract, 2 original broadcast sheet, an original service bulletin from Chrysler regarding hub caps, a letter from the T/A Registry and copy of old title.   This 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A represents an era where homologation cars ruled the streets. This Challenger is very highly and extremely well documented, and has extremely low confirmed original mileage. The very low production numbers of the T/A ensure that this model is very rare. Back in 1970, this was as close as most people came to owning an SCCA race car. When you experience driving this T/A, you realize just significant this car is to motorsports history in the early 70s and will be impressed with the car's performance abilities.
