For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet El Camino in Phoenix, Arizona

$33,000 (OBO)

Vehicle Description

Everybody loves the original hybrid - the Chevy El Camino. Part truck part car and whole lot of cool. My dad’s best friend had one of these beauties. I can still see it my mind’s eye like it was yesterday. Early 70’s. I’m loafing in my room up to no good with my shoes on the bed BTW, when I heard a deep rumbling sound coming around the corner with the slightest scratch of tires breaking loose just the right amount. “Uncle” Chips new El Camino. I had never heard any car sound like it before. It was like no other. I had no idea a car could look, sound and make me feel so cool! I immediately pictured myself in the driver’s seat with Nancy the head Cheerleader at my school who I would never in a million years have a chance with. Something told me if I had this car I could get that girl. Even if, she was a senior completely unaware of my existence, me a scrawny freshman, or that her boyfriend the captain of the football team and the largest human I had ever seen and would likely object to me and that car.

I found my dream car and started the restoration Mid 2014. I would not characterize it as a complete restoration. There are a few micro details to make it a true show piece.

Here’s what I have done to the car since I owned it: My intent was build a worry free Sunday fun day car.
Stripped cleaned and repaired body, chassis and running gear and new brakes. Work performed by retired GM factory mechanic.
New upholstery and carpets. Dash was already pretty good.
New GM Performance ZZ454 C.I.D 440 HP@5,250 rpm 500 ft.lbs. of torque at 3,250 rpm aluminum heads. FAST electronic throttle body and chip controller. No hassles with the new crappy gas, and eliminates headaches from carburetors.
New Rebuilt 700R4 4 speed automatic transmission: Master Rebuild kit with Alto Red Racing Clutches and Jolene Steels - Billet Smart Shell - Heavy Duty Torque Converter - Overdrive Z-Pack clutch set. Shorten Drive shaft.
New LV radiator and electronic fans. Car runs cool in Phoenix all summer long.
New 5 star paint and new trim by Jamie Jamison.

I am selling because I don’t have a proper place to store the car and it breaks my heart to see sitting out in the elements. It’s nice and dry here in Phoenix, and it’s always under a cover but it needs to go to good home that can take care of it the way it should be and finished to be the world class collector car it could be. I am asking $34,000 but willing to negotiate. Personal matters demand immediate liquidation. Don’t be shy with an offer. You might be surprised.
