GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this 1972 Triumph GT6 Mark III 2-door Fastback for purchase. The GT6 is a 6-cylinder sports coupe that was built by Standard-Triumph and based on their popular Triumph Spitfire convertible from 1966-1973. In early 1963, Standard-Triumph commissioned Giovanni Michelotti (notable for designing many models including several for Ferrari & Maserati) to design a GT version of the new Spitfire line. The fastback design was too heavy for the 1147cc output and the model was shelved. However, the prototype was adopted by the Triumph racing program and its aerodynamics resulted in great success (1st in class at 24-hour Lemans). After re-evaluation the GT6 was born with the Michelotti designed body and the more powerful 6 cylinder Triumph Vitesse engine with a marketing campaign to talk about the racing success.
The 1972 Triumph GT6 offered for your consideration is perhaps the finest GT6 we have had on our floor. This Triumph came to us from California where an extensive nut and bolt restoration was just completed. Everything is either brand new, replaced or rebuilt. We have a file that totals up over twenty thousand dollars in receipts to make this pristine automobile complete. Numerous orders were made to Victoria British, Moss Motors, British Wiring INC, Pep Boys, British Motor Service, and many more. Inside the car the upholstery is new and beautiful and the exterior shines with new paint. Vehicle comes with original wheels and hubcaps, and air cleaner.
Don't confuse these cars' performance with the 4 cylinder Spitfire. These cars have a very reliable inline six with dual carburetors that is a lot of fun to drive. We took this for a spin and it definitely scoots along. It runs and drives as it should. It's a great driving experience with an awesome and very rare body style.
