When we heard of this 107 body car with a manual transmission, it piqued our interest. These cars were only sold in the United States with an automatic transmission and V-8 engines. This stunning example is European spec. It is powered by a 2.8 L straight six cylinder engine and is matted to a five speed manual transmission. This combination provides for lighter weight resulting in spirited driving. Prior to our purchasing this 280 SL, we did a thorough inspection of it. To our delight this is a completely rust free example. It also has a very thorough service history. As expected, it has a clean Car Fax. Originally exported to California we have service history from when this car was new. Pretty much everything the previous owner did was documented. He took thorough notes that he wrote in the service book. The condition of this 280 SL reflects an owner that took great care in maintaining it. We only had to do minimal work on the car to get it ready for sale. This Mercedes drives as well as it looks. It fires right up with no hesitation and has no smoke on start up. The engine revs freely to its redline and it has a strong clutch and positive shifts. There's no squeaks, rattles, or looseness. Everything works as it should and even the dual zone air-conditioning blows cold. This car is as impressive to look at as it is to drive. The paint gleams, the chrome is bright with no pitting, and the convertible top is in excellent condition. Inside the door panels, carpets, and dash are in excellent condition. The leather seats have always been covered with lambswool covers. We do have the lambswool. When we took them off we were impressed with how well preserved the leather is.
