For Sale: 1948 Pontiac Woody Wagen in Fredericksburg, Virginia
A Rare Find—a nicely-restored 1948 Pontiac Woody
1948 was the last year Pontiac built the full-wood Silver Streak Woody. They were rare in 1948 and much rarer today. Our example is particularly nice:
• Great paint
• Wood is complete and largely well-varnished
• The straight 8 engine runs nicely
• The interior is excellent, complete with varnished wooden head-liner
• Plenty of room for eight people
They don’t get any Nicer!
• Paint and Chrome
The Black paint is in excellent condition, and makes a wonderful contrast with the varnished wood on the body. Like a classic wooden boat, the bright-work can use a bit of maintenance to make it perfect.
All of the chrome is in very good condition, giving a like-new appearance to this woody.
The body and underside of the car appears free of any structural rust. The engine compartment is nicely detailed.
• Interior
The seat upholstery is in very good condition. The door panels and carpeting are in nice condition as well.
The wooden head liner is in excellent condition, and the workmanship is reminiscent of the interior of classic wooden canoes.
• Engine
The 248.9 cubic inch straight-8 engine starts right up and runs correctly, providing plenty of power to this woody wagon.
• Transmission
The 3-speed manual transmission shifts properly and smoothly as one would expect in the last of the great—and most expensive—Pontiac Woodies.
• Tires, Brakes, Luxury and Monitoring Systems
The 6.50 x 16 wide whitewall tires are in excellent condition, along with a spare mounted out of the way under the rear floor.
The drum brakes work properly and smoothly and bring the car to a safe stop.
This car also has what appear to be the original radio and clock, however, they both appear to be stuck in 1948.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges appear to work properly. Similarly, the lights (other than the dash), horn, and turn signals all work.
A Great Woody that will Thrill the Owner and Spectators Alike
One would have to look far and wide to find a nicer example of this 1948 Woody. Whether at a car show, dinner at a special restaurant or a night out for ice cream, you can be assured that this car will be noticed and admired by everyone who sees it.
As one of the last of Pontiac’s woody wagons, our Woody represents not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up.”
