This car lived its useful life in Central Illinois. As a result, it wasn’t exposed to the ravages of road salt. The underbody was coated when new, so it only shows surface rust.
The body shows small repairs in font of each rear tire. Most likely caused by mud and debris. They were glassed and the car was repainted to the original Corinth Blue. I would guess the repaint to be 30 years old. It still shows great and there is no sign of active rust.
The chrome and stainless show a few imperfections, but are certainly driver quality. The glass is also original and in good condition. The wide whitewall tires are in good condition and sport nice original hubcaps.
The interior shows the results of time. The carpet is pretty well shot. The headliner is nice. The seats were covered wit aftermarket covers. They were professionally installed and look nice. The interior chrome is good. The few plastic bits and the steering wheel are showing poorly.
The radio doesn’t play. The wipers sweep slowly. The lights are working, as well as the indicators. Even the reverse and license plate lamps work. The trunk contain s a good spare wheel, jack and lug wrench. The doors lock via key. There are two sets.
Recent maintenance will offer you a long term driving experience. The ignition system was tuned and most components were replaced. The brakes have been redone and the car stops easily. The exhaust is brand new and was replaced from the manifolds back. The engine starts easily and propels the car smoothly. The transmission shifts well. The driving experience is pleasant.
The odometer reads just shy of 39,000. We have documents showing the odometer reading in the mid-30’s back in 1963. By then, the car was an old used car. I doubt it was driven another 100+ thousand miles since. The way the doors shut and the way the key turns in the locks makes me feel the mileage is actual. But I have no solid proof and it is exempt from disclosure in WI.
The same person from Central Illinois owned this car in 1959 and until 2010 when it went to MN. I believe the Central Illinois environment kept this car in decent condition.
