For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1978 Datsun 280Z. This 280Z is the SAP, Special Appearance Package that included Black Pearl paint, red and silver pin striping, rear window louvers and dual racing style mirrors. This Z is also optioned with the aluminum road wheels. 1978 would be the first year ever for a black Datsun Z car. Painted in a Pearl Black, the intention was to test the market on how well the public would react to a black car. The following year it would become a regular paint selection. Production numbers are unknown but estimated to be anywhere from 800 to 1200 units for the SAP. 1978 would be the last year for the Z car as the next year the car would evolve into the ZX. The fuel injected 280Z was inspired to get back to the original sporty feel of the old 240Z. The trusty inline 6, a 5-speed manual transmission, independent front and rear suspension and A/C made this a wonderful sports car/grand touring car. This one has a rebuilt engine and a Pace Setter muffler for great power and a wonderful and sporty sound. In the last three years this 280Z had the engine and transmission rebuilt and is also fitted with a new braking system, new clutch, injectors, suspension components, starter, alternator and paint. The stripe kit from the SAP was left off due to the personal preference of the seller. A lot of the Z cars were heavily modified making the original ones more valuable and harder to located. Here's a very original example and a rare one being the Sports Appearance Package. Don't until these are more expensive, call us now.
