As if the 1970 Javelin isn’t rare enough (19,714 total production) but to find one optioned as a 390 CID SST (2,730 made) and one in Frost White over Matador Red mean there were 80 of these ever available. This is one of those AND has been in the same family since special ordered by Dad in 1970! Rare indeed. Perfectly named, Javelin; (noun jav-e-lin jav-len : a light spear primarily to be thrown, used for piercing.) This will do exactly that although it will be you being thrown back in the seat as you punch the accelerator piercing the air in this 1970 AMC Javelin SST 390 Go-Pack. AMC was a serious contender in the muscle car market with the 1970 Javelin. The one year only design featured new front end design with wide “twin-venturi” front grille incorporating the headlamps, a longer hood and new rear end with full width tail lamps. The new styling came with a completely new front suspension and when you ordered the ‘Go Package’ you got front disk brakes, duel exhaust, heavy duty front suspension with anti-sway bar, improved cooling, 3.54 rear axle ratio and wide Goodyear white lettered performance tires on styled road wheels. The ‘Go Package’ also gave you the “Power Blister” hood with its two huge nostrils taking deep breaths of cold air to help those 390 cubic inches come to life. So much life that one of the biggest surprises for the 1970 motorsports season was Roger Penske and Mark Donohue taking over the AMC Javelin racing program and coming in a strong second place in the over 2 Liter class behind the Boss 302. This Javelin SST has been cared for by the same family since new including 20 years of storage and most recently undergone complete vehicle overhaul restoration with re-chroming and stripping the body to bare metal and repainted the original Frost White and Matador Red accent. Engine, transmission and rear rebuilt with new carburetor, new electronic ignition and a complete tune up with all work being done at local reputable shops. New suspension including coil over shocks and sway bar, brake and steering rebuilds as well as new fuel tank and fuel lines. Modifications include performance camshaft, headers and intake. The interior and vinyl top have also been replaced to investment grade. This beauty is ready to show and go for the next family.
