For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 2012 Holden Ute. From the country that brought us dystopian action films starring Mel Gibson, Vegemite, and a severe fear of local wildlife, comes something completely un expected. As most GM fans know, the El Camino found the end of its production span in the U.S. in 1987 and unfortunately saddled with the G body exterior. Although these could be made fairly cool by swapping out the front clips with Monte Carlo SS components the fact remained that with ever tightening emissions requirements and still not having found its true classification as either a car or a truck, the last generation of El Camino was sadly under powered and very homely looking in stock trim. Enter a world where the EPA was never invented and the quest for horsepower and fun never died. This world is Australia and indeed the El Camino never died, it just became better and better. The El Camino was actually a design brought over from Holden which was GM's Australian subsidiary and was designed to be an all around vehicle that could go to church on Sunday and deliver hogs on Monday. This incredible example of the Ute truly shows what Holden is capable of and what could have been if GM had played their cards correctly. The Holden Ute was supposed to make a comeback as the El Camino in the U.S. following the introduction of the Zeta platform which was the Pontiac G8 and GTO. Unfortunately when Pontiac was disbanded in 2010 so did the dream of the El Camino's return. This awesome Ute comes to us from Australia and was converted to left hand drive by a company called Left Hand Utes out of Denver Colorado. Left Hand Utes brings these truck over to the U.S. and brings them up to American specification for permanent importation and registration as well as offering a host of customization options tailored to the owners desire. Currently there are only 14 in the U.S. and this is the only one on the open market for sale. Under the hood of this beast sits the LS3 6.0l V8 mated to the 6 speed automatic with sport shift. The upgrades that the owner decided to include on this Ute are definitely ones that add a great amount of aesthetic and performance appeal. Sitting on a set of nice staggered 19" TSW polished wheels, you can clearly see the gigantic 4 piston Brembo brakes that do an incredible job of bringing this beast to a halt in record time. The engine has been treated to fully polished headers that feed into a custom X-Force 3" polished stainless exhaust that absolutely sings going down the road. Dyno tuning was done by Next Level Performance in Altamonte Springs FL, on the dyno this Ute achieved a very respectable 361HP at the wheels. The rarity of this vehicle in the U.S. is usually only reserved for a select few cars, with it being 1 of 14 in the U.S. this Ute has brought home the Good Guys trophy twice amongst several other first place wins, and most recently was invited to participate in the Amelia Island Festival of Speed. This is a unique opportunity to own a vehicle that is guaranteed to make a grocery store trip into a 2 hour affair and gather a crowd at any car show because let's face it, you won't run into another one anytime soon.
