Following the long-standing success of the Silver Shadow saloon; by 1980, Rolls-Royce decided that it was time for a replacement. Coming in to supplant this respected standard was the Silver Spirit/Silver Spur models. The Silver Spur was basically a long wheelbase version of the Silver Spirit. The new car shared much of its foundations with the Silver Shadow including the healthy 6.75-liter V-8 engine which is paired to an automatic transmission. This persevering genre continued in production until 2000.
This 1989 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur represents the final year for the Series I model. This desirable long wheelbase example has luxury appointments in abundance as typified by Rolls-Royce of this era and is finished in black with a tan leather interior and a black Everflex roof. The interior is reported to be “custom” and this is seen to be accomplished by a rear center-floor console in matching leather and housing a Sony television. A telephone is found in the rear armrest compartment. Burled walnut trim is lavished throughout, including the dashboard, door trims, “picnic tables” and the lower back-of-front seats tilt-out storage nooks. Other equipment includes power front seats, radio with CD player, power rack-and-pinion steering, power brakes, remote mirrors, air conditioning, plus the ambiance that few cars can provide quite like a Rolls-Royce. Sources indicate that approximately 6,200 similar cars were built in the 1980 to 1989 build period for the esteemed Silver Spur.
