Bruce Canepa's personal motorcycle
6-speed transmission
In 1998 Harley-Davidson was celebrating 95 years of building the
American motorcycle and came out with a special edition Road King
to mark the occasion. Purchased as his personal motorcycle, Bruce
Canepa decided to take this factory custom a step further. Well,
maybe a few steps further:
Starting at the front, the front fender was reshaped and lowered
down to fit closer to the tire. The forks were plated. A
Performance Machine caliper and disc was fitted, and a new 3.5 x 18
inch stainless spoked Sun wheel was installed with a 130/80R18
Pirelli tire.
Moving aft, the HD 95th Anniversary fuel tank emblems were frenched
into the tank. Fat handlebars were installed, with HD aftermarket
mirrors. All the wires and fuel lines were relocated to hide them
as much as possible. Stainless braided lines were fitted to the
brake and fuel lines.
The engine received an 88-inch upgrade along with new performance
air cleaner, exhaust, and polished 12-point hardware. The
transmission was changed from the stock 5-speed to a custom
6-speed. The floorboards were painted to match the rest of the
bike.
Now to the rear, a Corbin seat was custom made for the Road King
with backrests for the driver and passenger making for effortless
long distance cruising. The rear was lowered, and the sidebags were
brought in as close to the bike as possible with custom made
bracketry to create a seamless look between the fender, seat and
bags. The rear wheel is a 4.25 x 18 inch stainless spoked Sun with
a 140/70R18 Pirelli tire. Finishing off the rear is a custom-made
license plate frame and bracket, as well as integrated turn signals
made by Canepa Design hidden in the taillight.
Finally the bike was painted a custom blended dark burgundy
nonmetallic and subtly hand pinstriped. Every part of this bike has
been sculpted to make for one of the most refined and classy Road
Kings of its generation.
The last of Bruce Canepa's personal motorcycles, this bike has only
2,573 original miles and is ready for many more miles, or to be
kept as a one-of-a-kind Canepa Design custom show bike.
