Vehicle Description
A very rare 1937 Chevrolet Master ‘flat-back’ four door sedan (trunkless model 1209), built by General Motors manufacturing plant in Oshawa Canada as an export right hand drive model. GM only produced 2,755 of the Master trunkless model out of a total of 825,220 Chevrolet cars manufactured by GM in 1937. It is estimated that approximately 100 right-hand drive version of this four door trunkless model were built by GM Canada for export. The car was first registered September 1st 1937 at Nelson New Zealand; it has had two owners, the first owner from the September 1st 1937 to June 29th 1977, and the second owner to today.
The car is completely original and unmodified; it has the original straight 6 OHV engine 216 cubic in (and engine serial number). It is in a fully maintained running condition. For the most part of the last 30 years, it has remained in a sealed shipping container since a full restored in 1985 (when the current owner moved overseas). Immediately prior to storage it had a ‘body off chassis’ restoration at that time and the rebuild of the original engine, gearbox and running gear; it has driven a total of 278 miles since 1985. Full supporting documentation is available that spans back to the date the car registration in New Zealand in 1937.
This is 100% authentic car and is supported by a fully documented history with original body and engine tags. Trunkless sedans are an extremely rare find in North America, and even more rare in a Right Hand Drive version anywhere else in the world, less than 10 RHD version of this model are thought to exist, sadly most have been converted to rods.
The following parts are available for sale to the new owner, on a first right of refusal basis. The parts were sourced and purchased in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, and have been stored and preserved along with the car for the past 35 years. They are all genuine GM 37 parts, used, refurbished or new (old new stock in original packaging with receipts)
