For Sale: 1972 Fiat 850 Spider in Kentwood, Michigan
"When an Italian Carmaker sets out to design and build a sports
car, one thing it can't be is ordinary. The traditions and
standards are intimidating: Ferrari, Maserati, Fiat, Lancia. The
expected refinements are formidable: electronic tachometers, disc
brakes, fast actions tops, radial tires. Especially where a sports
car is concerned, how you get there must be just as exciting as
where you are going." ~ Fiat
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to offer this wonderful example of
Italian greatness, this 1972 Fiat 850 Spider. The car was purchased
new from Kolosso Auto Sales of Appleton, WI on April 10, 1972.
Records indicate that the first owner drove the car approximately
6000 miles before transferring ownership in November of 1973 where
it was acquired by a free-spirited women who cherished the car for
the next 20 years. She drove the car frequently but never in winter
and hardly in the rain. She routinely serviced the vehicle at the
same mechanic during her time with the car. In 1995, she passed
away and the car was willed to her nephew where he gave the car the
same respect that it had received the 20 years prior. Since records
indicate that this Fiat 850 Spider found its way to one more owner
until our recent acquisition. The car has traveled just 43935
documented miles and as a result of excellent ownership, this 1972
Fiat 850 spider remains in remarkable, highly original condition.
The car is powered by its original 903 cc inline 4 cylinder rear
mounted engine, 4 speed manual gearbox and this little Fiat weighs
in at just 706 kilograms. The car seems to maybe have been painted
once, albeit tough to tell for sure, in its original 273 Fiat
Chrome Yellow and shows excellent in all areas. The interior
remains magnificent and appears to be all original including the
rubber floors, the engine compartment retains its original paint
and the motor itself remains in its original state having never
been detailed or restored. Mechanically, this little spider remains
a spot on spirited driver with all lights and gauges are currently
in working order. In short, we have little doubt that this is one
of the finest examples in existence. The car appears to be 100
percent complete including the original washer bag in the engine
compartment, the original Fiat tool kit original keys with original
key fob, original Jack and original full size spare. This Fiat has
fabulous owner ship history including a written testimonial of the
women who owned it and how the car fit her personality. The car is
also fully documented with original owners identification card,
original warranty and service book with service history written in,
original owners manual, service records nearly from day 1, and
other goodies.
When investing in and collecting cars, there are things that
matter: Quality, originality, owner history, documentation,
provenance and completeness. It is extremely rare that one vehicle
possesses all of these to the degree of this 1972 Fiat 850 Spider.
For this reason and countless others, this car is a must
consideration for any auto enthusiast and is a jewel for any
collection
