As cool as first generation Camaros are, it seems that EVERYONE
either owns one or knows someone who owns one. And as much as we
enjoy watching killer F1s parade through our doors, it's always
nice to see a well-done second generation car. Being an avid Camaro
fan, you probably know finding a highly polished F2 isn't all that
hard. But the chances of scoring a unique, fully-sorted pro-tourer
seem almost as likely as purchasing a winning lotto ticket.
Luckily, since the passionate gearheads at RK Motors Charlotte
specialize in the unique and fully sorted, we can offer you
one-of-a-kind opportunities like this attractive, carefully
modified 'hugger'. Wrapping a supercharged Gen III LS6 and tough
Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed in custom leather upholstery, this super
clean muscle car will ensure you enjoy miles of open road and
plenty of high octane summers!
BODYWORK/TRIM
During its body-off, rotisserie restoration, this solid old panther
was entirely disassembled and carefully stripped of its dull,
original pigment. Once that prep was complete, an incredibly
straight fuselage was augmented with fresh quarters and a new trunk
pan. As that massaged sheetmetal featured better-than-factory
alignment, a rich coat of Metallic Orange base was detailed with
black Rally Stripes and sealed in glossy clear. When that clear
dried, labor-intensive hours were spent buffing a spectacular
shine. And today, one close look at our high resolution photos
reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one of the coolest
Chevrolet muscle cars on the planet!
Built to look old school but drive like a modern Corvette, this
brazen coupe adds increased significance to the "working man's
Ferrari" mentality that GM famously threaded in to F2's
development. At the front of the car, a 2-piece Rally Sport valence
centers a 4-piece, "Z28" branded grille between ornate parking
lights, modern headlamps, a requisite chin spoiler and mirrored
bumperettes. Behind that valance, a classy header emblem leads the
eye to a smooth, stainless-trimmed hood, which fronts pristine,
stainless-trimmed glass that's cleared by hidden, Rally Sport
windshield wipers. At the sides of that hood, the car's clean
fuselage centers polished door handles and body-matched mirrors
between clean marker lamps, simple "Z28" emblems and straight
rocker guards. And those mirrors reflect a tastefully modified deck
spoiler, which centers a correct "Z28" emblem above a bright
bumper, polished exhaust pipes and Rally Sport-exclusive
taillights.
ENGINE
One thing you won't have to worry about in this Chevy is power.
Thanks to a supercharged Gen III LS6, this sweet split-bumper
defies any notion that it's just some pretty parking lot poseur.
More specifically, that engine, ordered as a $15,550 kit from
Turnkey Engine Supply of Oceanside, California, creates a
dyno-proven 585 horsepower! At the front of the all-aluminum mill,
a chrome-trimmed serpentine drive spins a polished alternator and
polished AC compressor behind a color-keyed HPS Performance Short
Ram Air Intake. Once air enters that system's K&N cone, it
flows through a factory-spec throttle body to a polished Magnuson
supercharger that's bolted down over lightweight 243 heads and
GM-spec internals. High-octane fossils are provided by reliable
electronic fuel injection, which is monitored by a liquid-filled
Allstar Performance gauge. Sparks are sequenced through a custom
wiring harness and pliable 7mm plug wires. Spent gases swirl
through ceramic-coated shorty headers. And cooling comes courtesy
of a beefy Ron Davis radiator that's centered on dual SPAL puller
fans. On the visual end of the spectrum, mirrored coil covers
perfectly complement the block's various shades of silver. The
conservative engine compartment seats body-matched fenders beneath
billet hood supports, Hotchkis brace bars, and an attractive,
"Z/28" branded mat. And niceties such as braided fluid lines,
quality CBR hoses, polished fluid reservoirs, a proven Wilwood
master cylinder and a billet-cased Optima battery add a tailored
feel to quality assembly.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Take a gander under this cool F-Body and you'll find a fully
detailed chassis that mixes new age technology with old school
durability. Thoroughly solid floorpans wear a clean coat of
Metallic Orange 2-stage and, save for hours of buffing, are every
bit as nice as the car's first rate exterior. At the center of
those floors, a proven Tremec T56 Magnum 6-speed, ordered as a
$4,600 kit from Turnkey Engine Supply of Oceanside, California,
makes excellent use of a posi-traction differential, 31-spline
axles and big, 3.90 gears. Stopping is a cinch thanks to
hydroboosted Wilwood calipers and a quartet of 12-inch drilled and
slotted rotors. Exhaust is handled by large-diameter stainless
pipes, which wrap smooth Mandrel bends around an X-shaped crossover
and chambered Flowmaster mufflers. At the front of the car, modern
power rack-and-pinion steering complements beefy tubular control
arms. At the back of the car, an adjustable Heidts Pro-G 4-link
aligns with boxed subframe connectors. Torque melts the pavement
thanks to American Racing Torq Thrust Ms, which spin 255/45ZR17
Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 285/40ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme
ZRs. And, as you can tell by our high resolution photos, not a
detail was missed on this Chevy's fully-sorted undercarriage.
INTERIOR
Open the car's long doors and you'll find a customized leather
interior that's stylish and very livable. There's a quartet of
bucket seats that were probably donated by something modern. In
front of those thrones, a monochromatic dash hangs $1,020 worth of
Dakota Digital VHX telemetry over a Pioneer CD player and Vintage
Air climate control. At the bottom of that dash, an orange-stitched
console centers a long Hurst shifter between fade-free carpet and
"Z28" branded floor mats. Opposite that console, custom door panels
hang minimalist hardware over orange-stitched armrests. Above those
panels, a tight headliner flows to big rear speakers, which are
seated in an "RS" branded package tray. Speaking of Rally Sport
attire, the driver spins an "RS" branded steering wheel around a
tilting column. And passengers stow essentials in a fully carpeted
trunk.
