1962 Chevrolet Corvair Flatbed Custom

When creativity, hard work and a love for old cars come together things like Flatbed Fred are born! If you are in the market for something unique you are going to have a tough time finding something that stands out more than this classic. Not only did this custom start life as a rare Rampside Corvair, but it was modified to be one of the only 4 or 5 flatbed Corvairs ever created. The truck is absolutely beautiful and extremely cool on top of that. Be prepared to chat wherever you take it because this cab forward custom draws a crowd wherever it goes. It started out as a 1962 Rampside but due to the very high quality workmanship it is very hard to tell. The truck could have easily been built this way from the factory it was done so well. The body is painted in a very clean Burgundy and Gray that has a great finish. The flatbed has a diamond plate surface and was painted in the same Gray to match. The entire bed was expertly constructed with extra storage space, a hydraulic engine cover and a beautiful wood frame. It is mainly used as a show truck nowadays but Flatbed Fred has no problem being a workhorse if needed and that bed is sturdy enough to take it. Custom aftermarket wheels have been added and fit the truck well.

Powering the pickup is a 1965 110hp Corvair motor. It is mounted in the rear under a hydraulic cover and runs great. It has a very clean look with all of the components nicely painted Black or Burgundy to match body. The motor runs smoothly and the truck is very comfortable to drive. Along with the motor, the transmission and rear end were entirely serviced and re-sealed in April of 2016. The carburetors were entirely rebuilt, the starter replaced, and a new sending unit installed. Other nice upgrades done previously include the electric fuel pump with cutoff switch and pertronix ignition. The truck has been slightly lowered and just fitted with all new front springs and shocks which have improved the ride a lot. It rolls down the road very smoothly especially when you compare it to other cab forwards out there. We know it has the right look and drives great so you might as well add a great sound to that list too. It just received an entirely new exhaust system with Flowmasters to get the best sound possible out of the Corvair motor.

The interior is very clean and simple. It features Burgundy upholstery with a vinyl and cloth combination on the split bench seat. The door frames and dash are all painted the same as the body and are in just as good of shape. The dash is fitted with most of the original components and all of the gauges, etc are working properly. The shifter is routed through the floor and topped off with an aftermarket shifter knob. It moves through the gears well and without issues.

If you are ready for a cool new custom that is sure to get some attention look no further. If we had room in the shop we would add it to our fleet without a doubt. Discussions have already been had about how cool a classic go cart or minibike would look sitting on the back but we will leave that up to the buyer! The possibilities are endless and it is being offered up at a price you just can't beat!
