A Rare Find—MGA Twin-Cam
Nice MGA roadsters are increasingly hard to find, but a fully restored Twin-Cam is more rare than the proverbial “hen’s teeth”! Only slightly more than 2,000 of these high-performance MGs were made from 1958 until 1960.
This 1959 Twin-Cam is a standout:
• Has the coveted Heritage Certificate confirming its authenticity;
• Fully restored;
• Recent engine rebuild and dyno;
• Knock-off steel wheels;
• Full tool kit;
• Manuals; and
• Records galore.
They don’t get any Nicer!
• Paint and Chrome
The Dark Blue paint is a color-change and is in excellent condition. The paint gleams and shows off the car’s great lines.
All of the chrome was redone or replaced, giving a like-new appearance to this Twin-Cam.
The body and underside of the car are free of rust and the engine compartment is fully detailed.
• Interior
The seat upholstery was all redone in period-correct black leather that makes an excellent contrast with the navy blue exterior. The door panels and carpeting are in excellent condition as well.
The convertible top has probably never seen rain and both it and the side curtains (stowed in individual fleece cloth bags) look like new. A like-new tonneau covers the cockpit while you are away from the car for a few hours.
• Engine
Of course the centerpiece of a Twin-Cam is its engine, and this one was completely rebuilt and dyno tested. (All the receipts from the rebuild will transfer with the car.) It has a distributor-mounted electronic ignition. The car’s engine runs and drives like a new one.
• Transmission
The 4-speed manual transmission shifts properly and smoothly on both up and down shifts.
• Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems
This Twin-Cam has correct center knock-off steel rims with 185 HR 15 Vredestein Sprint tires that have most of their tread remaining. These wheels were one of the trademarks of the Twin-Cams—along with the engine, of course!
The Twin-Cams featured disc brakes on all four wheels to enhance the braking ability when these cars were taken to the track. For those drivers who didn’t track their cars, the disc brakes offered enhanced stopping power and, therefore, safety.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges/lights (temperature, fuel, amp and oil pressure) work properly. Similarly, the lights, horn, and turn signals all work.
And should you, per chance, find yourself on a country road and suffer a mechanical break-down, you have a full set of original tools to speed you on your way again.
An Excellent Example of the Iconic and Rare
MGA Twin-Cams
The MGA Twin-Cam is a British sports car icon by utilizing the pleasing MGA styling but enhancing the performance with a special engine to make it go faster and 4-wheel disc brakes to make it stop faster. These original cars represent not just a great driving experience but a sound investment as well. Apart from the investment value of this car, it is hard to put a price on the feeling of enjoyment when other drivers and pedestrians wave and give you a “thumbs up.”
