1969 Cadillac DeVille Station Wagon Extremely rare - one of five
custom-built station wagons Cadillac commissioned for use in
transporting VIPs, corporate guests and executives to and from the
Indianapolis 500 race in 1969 After the race, all five were sold
through a Cadillac dealer in Dallas, Texas 472 CID V-8 engine (375
hp) Turbo Hydramatic three-speed automatic transmission British
Racing Green exterior with simulated alligator leather seats
Air-conditioning Power brakes, power steering, automatic climate
control, AM-FM radio, power windows, power seat, electric side
mirror Rear fender skirts You've seen them before serving as
ambulances and hearses, you've even seen one on the big screen in
the "Ghostbusters" movies but we have an extremely rare (1 of 5),
actual Cadillac C-body four-door hardtop station wagon here at
MotoeXotica Classic Cars, have you ever even seen one? In 1969,
Cadillac commissioned five custom-built station wagons to transport
VIPs, corporate guests and executives at that year's Indianapolis
500 race. This is one of those five Cadillac DeVille Station
Wagons, that is being sold on a California actual mileage title.
Dressed in British Racing Green, the paint is in good shape but
some minor blemishes are visible upon close inspection, most
notably some crazing of the paint from age. The glass panels are
intact and clear and the lights are in very good condition. All of
the body panels are straight and wagon rolls on Goodyear Wrangler
HT tires, 235/75R15, surrounding steel wheels with original
Cadillac wheel covers. Inside, the factory split bench and rear
seats have been trimmed in simulated alligator leather, which are
in very good shape and which emit a period-specific vibe.
Otherwise, the interior appears original. The carpet, headliner,
dashboard and two-spoke steering are all in good shape but the dash
has a crack on the driver's side near the A-pillar. The door panels
are in original shape with wear, the mirrors and gear shift lever
are in decent shape. Driver assist features include power steering,
power brakes, power windows, power front seat and cruise control.
Completing the interior is an AM/FM radio. Starting from the
standard Cadillac Sedan DeVille 4-door hardtop, the coachbuilder -
whose identity is today unknown - used primarily production GM
parts in the conversion, creating a roomy, comfortable and
luxurious yet still practical station wagon with Cadillac quality.
Its nearly unique styling stands out in any gathering of modern
cars. This example received a restoration in 1998 to meet the high
standards of a demanding owner. Not only was it completely redone
mechanically but it also was refinished in British Racing Green and
trimmed in simulated alligator leather interior to achieve a custom
and sporting look befitting a coachbuilt luxury station wagon of
its stature. It also has a 1970 Cadillac grille, which the owner
preferred to the 1969 style. All mechanical work has been done to
factory specifications. Of course, it is fitted with the complete
outfit of Cadillac comfort and convenience features including
automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, automatic
climate control, AM-FM radio, power windows, power seat, electric
side mirror and whitewall radial tires. Appropriate to its custom
conception and luxury purpose it also has a chrome roof rack and an
extra large cavity sunroof. After serving their intended purpose of
providing the highest standards of corporate hospitality at
Indianapolis, all five Cadillac DeVille Station Wagons were sold
through a Cadillac dealer in Dallas, Texas. This one ended up
serving at Mt. Tamalpais Cemetery in Vallejo, California.
