Vehicle Description
To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at The Raleigh Classic's Winter Event December 2-3 2016. Estimate: $107,000 - $111,000 This 1952 Buick Estate Wagon was one of the most expensive and rarest of all the Buicks built in 1952. Only 2000 were ever produced and few examples of this quality remain today. The original production was as follows: a partially assembled body was sent to Ionia, Michigan where it was mounted on a jig and hand assembled with carpenters using a small assembly line; then, when the wood body work was finished, the vehicle was shipped back to Buick and final assembly was completed. It was a slow hand process but resulted in some amazingly beautiful cars being built. The Estate Wagons were created for Harlow Curtis and inspired by Harley Earls concept and Motorama Cars. The end of the Buick Estate Station Wagon in 1953 meant the end of the last wood-bodied wagons produced in the United States. This example has been superbly restored with fit and finish that is better than new. The interior is gorgeous and flawless including the trim seating surfaces. All instrumentation and gauges function perfectly. The exterior has excellent paint with perfect wood, trim and brightwork. The underside and engine compartment are restored to show specifications. It is the best of both worlds being a highly original and numbers matching car with important options and amenities for daily enjoyment including ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING, POWER STEERING and upgraded 12 volt electrical system permitting constant reliable starting and perfect, dependable function of all electrical systems. This beauty has been enjoyed following the restoration and offers it all, standing ready to serve the new owner with many a trip down memory lane.
