Carroll Shelby is a name synonymous with high performance. I
would venture to say that there isn't a classic car, or high
performance car enthusiast anywhere that doesn't know the name
“Shelby”. Deeply rooted in racing since the 1950's and into the
early 60's Mr. Carroll Shelby was on the cutting edge of high
performance automobile development like his Ford powered AC
Cobras, that stood up to, and stomped all over Enzo Ferrari's
seemingly more refined high performance examples on the track.
Such as it was, Fords top Executive Lee Iaccoca saw an
opportunity for his new pony car to compete not only on the
race track, but...well, on the street.
Since that time Shelby Mustangs have become so popular, and
highly sought after, that their place in the world of racing,
collecting, showing, and just driving have earned their place
high on the food chain of collectible ultra high performance
cars 1968 introduced the Shelby GT500 KR, and that moniker
alone would strike fear into most any other brand of high
performance, or muscle car when rolling up next to it on the
street. Fast forward 40 years and we find ourselves and younger
generations on the cutting edge of the high performance world
with the likes of ...guess who? “Shelby”! Mr. Shelby himself
really never left the performance car building business. What
he did do is take this later generation of Mustang and improved
upon it's already note-worthy quality and performance.
PAY ATTENTION to this next sentence: The Shelby base GT500 was
sent directly from the Ford factory to the dealerships, while
the Shelby “GT500 KR” was sent from the Ford factory to Shelby
American headquarters in Las Vegas for it's upgrades, then sent
from there to the dealerships. This particular Shelby is a one-
owner, 5,693 original mile, meticulously maintained top of the
line Mustang. This Shelby Mustang really pays tribute to the
1968 GT500KR and brings to the forefront that bold, strong,
classic name into the American Lexicon.
