1929 Bugatti Type 40 Roaster in Bremerton, Washington
The car is very original, having been very well preserved because it only had two owners in the last 52 years !
All the mechanical components are consistant with the chassis number. The original chassis plate is on the dash , stamped « 40485 -10 HP. » The engine sump is stamped with the chassis number 40845 in original factory style, on the rear left arm. Its front right arm let see the engine number 769.
The wood panels are stamped 22. The car is the 22th Jean Bugatti Roadster made of the 42 produced in 1930-1931. The employed at the Bugatti Coachwork who was in charge of making the body stamped carefully at many places its body number. According to the list of the type 40 roadsters made, number 22 is logical for that car assembled right in the middle of the 42 cars production. The Bugatti coachwork plates are missing, so are missing the side lamps and the front bumper. Most of the roadsters had disc on wheels when sold new. Certainly 40845 had originaly that feature.
The car is restored with a correct dashboard and the three color tone is the right choice for a Jean Bugatti car. It is perfectly running and ready to bring two Bugatti enthusiasts to any Bugatti rallye with enough place for luggage at the back .You may save a trailer and enjoy the way to destination and back on narrow roads in pure bugattist tradition.
