Ford Motor Company designed and tested the Focus FR200's (FR=Ford Racing) with Ford Racing at the helm, and designated McLaren Vehicle Development Center for the building and fabrication of these unique vehicles. The mission was to build a car with the ultimate combination of high horsepower and superior handling for a sport compact car. The result was three FR200 vehicles, at a cost of over $225,000 each, only the third Ford project to date with the FR designation (FR100 project, 1953 truck one-off, and the FR500 project). This car was used as the test car Ford and was used as a Pace car in a Southern series, has more slightly more boost and has steel rods and crank for added durability in testing.

The engine is a Ford Racing 2.0L Zetec with high-flow cast aluminum cylinder head, four valves per cylinder, two intake valves, 33mm diameter, two exhaust valves, 29.8mm diameter a 5-speed manual European production MTX75 transmission case with Ford Racing prototype MTX75 transmission gears.
