Vehicle Description
Jerry Dittrich is a custom car builder from Colorado. This example is regarded as one of his best efforts. The frame was extended 28", the front suspension was removed and replaced with a torsion-bar front suspension from a 1973 Chrysler complete with power steering and front disc brakes. It's powered by a 340 Mopar engine with a 2-barrel carburetor, TorqueFlight transmission and Chrysler rear end. The body was dismantled and the wooden frame was replaced with oak. The doors were reversed for easier access. Power windows were added along with a power division window. The rear passenger compartment was built with exotic hardwoods, and a console was constructed between the jump seats to house a television and stereo. The rear passenger compartment was built with rich, button-tufted Burnt Orange velour. The car is air-conditioned and features a bud vase and antique telephone to summon the driver. The steering column is a Chrysler tilt telescoping unit with a Fat Man swing-away steering wheel, four-way flashers and cruise control. For convenience of entry, the driver's compartment doors were also reversed. The driver's compartment features side curtains and upholstery on the running boards and top of the passenger compartment. This car was selected as one of the top street rods of the 1970s and featured in Rod & Custom magazine. The car was transported out East and underwent a three-year cosmetic restoration to restore the chrome and paint, replacing the tires, and all general service and maintenance was performed.
