For Sale: 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 KR in Halton Hills, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible For Sale - 428-4V CJ, Fully Doc'd, Rotisserie Resto LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 Shelby GT500 KR. Ford introduced the Mustang in April 1964 as a mid-year production sensation which quickly became the icon of a new breed of cars called ‘pony cars’. Today, a 'pillar of American automotive lore' and extraordinarily attractive, the Mustang has been capturing the hearts of drivers for over 50 years… however, the Shelby Mustang is the ultimate asphalt warrior from the blue oval stable. Ford, with assistance from Carroll Shelby, put forward 'the next hot item in the street wars' with the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Cobra Jet. The mean and powerful look was achieved by Shelby American through body modifications including extending the front end by three inches, adding a fiberglass hood with fully functioning dual front scoops and hot air extraction vents. It had a brand-new version of the 428 Police Interceptor engine fitted with improved-breathing heads and larger exhaust manifolds giving birth to the 428 CJ. The GT500 KR or "King of the Road" powered by a pavement eating Cobra Jet 428 engine was deviously rated at only 335 horsepower when in fact, it pumped out at least 400 horsepower. Powerful enough to send the GT500 KR from 0 to 60 mph in only 6.9 seconds with a 103 mph quarter-mile speed. Additionally, the KR had larger brakes, under-hood suspension bracing, and staggered rear shocks to reduce axle wind-up and wheel hop. At the time, Car Life magazine said “The car is so impressive, so intimidating to challengers, that there are no challengers”. Limited production and awesome power makes the 1968 GT500 KR one of the most collectible ’Stangs of all time. This 1968 Shelby GT500 KR completed production on June 20, 1968 at the Metuchen Plant and was shipped to Conway Ford Inc. in Youngstown, Ohio on the same day. The original owner purchased the car from Conway Ford, and only drove it for a couple months before trading it back into Conway Ford. The second owner, Randal Anderson of Youngstown, Ohio, then purchased the Shelby from Conway, and was this GT500KR’s caretaker until 2010. Mr. Anderson was a high school teacher and drove the car until 1973, with 43,000 miles, he got married and put the Shelby into storage. It would stay in there, untouched, until 2008, when he relocated to New York and began the car’s restoration. In 2010, it would be purchased by its next owner from Mr. Anderson, it's long time caretaker.  Having benefited from a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration the fastidious owner wanted to do everything he could to bring the car to a higher level of quality and correctness. With much money and time invested it was a true labour of love and the finished product is absolutely beautiful.  Not only in its extreme rarity and wonderful quality it is of course very well documented in the Shelby Registry and has a detailed Marti Report. From factory, this GT500KR is equipped with a 428-4V Cobra Jet Engine, a 4-Speed Manual Transmission, Black Bucket Seats, the GT Equipment Group, Visibility Group, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Tilt-Away Steering Column, AM Radio, and the Interior Décor Group.  The Candy Apple Red Paint, and interior are in near perfect condition, with only test miles since a complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration. This Shelby comes with a variety of documentation including; a Marti Report, photos of the restoration, copies of an original title, a copy of the Shelby Build Sheet, a copy of the original order sheet, and a binder full of other documents. This Shelby GT500KR is extremely desirable in this factory combination. This car has been meticulously maintained and cared for and stored in a climate controlled environment since completion. This Shelby GT500KR is a car that is as rare as it is beautiful. Its few owners have meticulously cared for this Shelby over the years, and have documented it very well. It can be found in the Shelby American Registry and would be a perfect addition for any collector or collection seeking to add a truly outstanding and highly desirable Shelby. Additional Details: -
