Always in California since new....'black plate car.' Last owner for 34 years. Absolutely rust free floors, chassis, inner rockers, battery boxes, just beautiful. We were told the engine and transmission were rebuilt around 40k miles ago....our tests: 150-160 psi compression in every cylinder, no smoke cold or hot, quiet valves, 65 psi oil pressure warm, perfect running, trans is quiet and has excellent synchromesh (and it is a later model Mk II all synchro unit....FAR superior to the original). Wire wheels appear to be in excellent condition, getting new chrome knock offs, excellent wiring and electrics, excellent body repainted in 2011 and still in great condition. Interior is very nice, black with what appears to be fairly new carpets, headliner is good, dash is excellent. Same with chrome and trim....sufficiently good for a low key show. During last owner's recent work and prep, flywheel and clutch were replaced as was the driveshaft, SU carbs rebuilt, sll shocks replaced, exhaust replaced, brakes done, starter and generator rebuilt. The last owner was very thorough in keeping this beautiful classic in top mechanical condition. Starts instantly runs smoothly. the 98hp B engine pulls very well and revs freely. And on the day it arrived, 85 degrees and sunny, went for a long drive with the vent window open and was amazed at the rush of air.......very comfortable. These GTs are fabulous classic GT cars which, in their day in England, were known as 'the poor man's Aston Martin.' Very usable, great for highway cruising, and quite comfortable. Needs very little and it is our intention to convert the car to negative ground, fit a rebuilt neg gd tach, a modern stereo/CD, some additional cleaning and detailing which will 'finish' this car nicely.
