This is the vehicle description as found on the Sanderson Headers 50th Anniversary catalogue:
You are looking at a rare, completely rebuilt factory muscle car from the heyday of Detroit's performance competition. Mercury produced only 12,347 of these and according to Hemmings Muscle Machines, fewer than 400 survive today. This car has the build sheet and matching numbers to the original engine (now stored but would go with the car when sold.) This Mercury Comet "Super" Cyclone has that "fresh from the factory" look. It was kept original using build sheet codes for interior pearl white (NOS from SMS Auto Fabrics) and exterior paint with PPG "mile deep" Black Onyx; reassembled after a full body dip by Hot Rod Dreamworks. All knobs, gauges and trim were redone along with the factory tach, steering wheel and AC vents. The body and suspension components were brought back to life with new bushings, a modern Borgenson power steering box, and restored '65 disc brakes. The stock four speed transmission and 8" rear end were rebuilt and a new Hurst shifter installed. One piece case aluminum wheels from West Coast Classic Cougars with Diamondback Redline tires replaced the factory rolling stock. The original matching numbers engine 225hp 289 Windsor (now stored) was replaced with a new Ford Racing X crate motor, The new 302 runs a Quickfuel 4bbl. fired by a Pertronix igniter Three System, and Sanderson FF6 block huggers hooked toa 2.5" exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers. A trip to the dynotuner resulted in over 320HP at the rear wheels.
The Cyclone's first showing was at the March 2014 Portland Roadster Show where it was judged Best in Class. It won again at the Portland Roadster Show's 60th anniversary car show in 2016. This vehicle is nearly 100% authentic. The original dash and windows still adorn the car. It's a crowd pleaser no matter where it is shown and driven. It's stunning to look at and fun to drive. Besides many other awards and trophies, it won a best paint with the "black Onyx" exterior and rave reveiws for the pearl white nalgahyde stitched to the original factory pattern by SMS Auto Fabric known world wide.
